10 Years AgoThe Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing at Sidney was closed for several hours early today after a minor derailment. At least one car apparently jumped the track and the train was stopped until the railroad could get a crew to the scene to correct the problem. None of the railway cars tipped over.25 Years AgoFour local students received recognition for their good citizenship from the Tippecanoe River Chapter of the DAR. Senior Linda Van Duyne of Argos represented the local DAR Chapter in the state competition. Susan Martin of Bourbon was the Triton High School representative. Michelle Middaugh, Bourbon, received the seventh-grade good citizen award and Ryan Rust, Bourbon, received the eighth-grade good citizen award. Upon his presentation, it was noted that Ryan was also the seventh-grade good citizen award recipient.50 Years AgoWeeks of reading, fact sifting and serious thought went into the five-minute speech that earned Linda Becher, 16-year-old Warsaw girl, an opportunity to visit many historic places in the east next summer and spend an entire week at United Nations headquarters in New York City. It's all wrapped up in the 12th annual United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth, sponsored by Odd Fellow and Rebekah Lodges of this country and Canada.75 Years AgoMiss Gene Calvert, winner of first place in the Warsaw High School oratorical contest, and Miss Donna Rose Simons, winner of second place, were the guests of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club. They gave the readings which entitled them to represent Warsaw in the county contests to be held Friday, April 3rd. Miss Calvert read Poe's "The Bells," and Miss Simons read "The Marvels of a Modern Apartment."
