10 Years AgoThe following students received honors at the 54th annual DECA State Conference in Indianapolis recently.Representing Warsaw at National Conference in Louisville April 28 to May 3 will be Adam Reed and Derrick Richardson.Reed placed first in the state in the food marketing category and personal selling role play and received a Johnson and Wales scholarship. Richardson will represent Indiana as a state officer. He was district II president this year.25 Years AgoThe Warsaw Kiwanis Club's second Public Service Appreciation Award was made at a recent luncheon meeting to Robert Ashman, a local resident, for his numerous and varied service activities in the community.Ashman is the first Kiwanian to get the award. Included in the range of Ashman's activities were his services in helping to develop the idea and the construction of Grace Village for elderly at Winona Lake by the Grace Brethren Church.50 Years AgoKathleen Rood, 10-year-old fifth-grade pupil at Pierceton, won the Kosciusko County spelling championship this morning. She defeated seventh-eighth grade champion Joey Beer, 13, of Milford, in the final "spelldown" over radio stations WRSW and WRSW FM.Kathleen will next advance to the Indiana district contest in Fort Wayne. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rood of Pierceton. Joey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Beer, of Milford.75 Years AgoMary Jane Lauer, granddaughter of Mrs. Stella Leiter, of Warsaw, will broadcast this evening over station WGL, Fort Wayne. Miss Lauer, who won a spelling contest among pupils at her school, will compete in a spelling contest this evening with winners among the other schools of Fort Wayne.
