The dedication of the Pierceton Senior Citizen Center took place recently with short speeches and a ribbon cutting. The new building is expected to be a "definite benefit to the community," as council president Jerry Kreger said during the ceremony. He recognized councilman Terry Hill as instrumental in getting the cleanup, which eventually became a brownfield site because the old building was a former gas station.25 Years AgoLong-time entertainer Pat Boone, who has sold more than 45 million records, will appear at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse, Warsaw, for two performances on Sunday, April 27. Statistics published by Billboard magazine illustrate Pat Boone's success vividly. He has set an all-time record by staying on the charts for more than 200 consecutive weeks with one song, not necessarily the same one, in contention each week. "Love Letters" alone remained on the charts for 34 consecutive weeks.50 Years AgoFire of unknown origin swept through the P.N. Hirsch department store in downtown Warsaw at 8 o'clock this morning, threatened adjoining stores and was raging on with the probability that damage will run between $250,000 and $500,000. The fire was contained to the Hirsch building. The Brennan Drug Store and Ringle Furniture Store were spared, but damaged by smoke and water. Firemen saved a good part of the business district by their quick response.75 Years AgoTownship trustees who are now serving as township assessors, and their deputies, report that they are "doggone" tired of collecting the dog tax - or of trying to collect the tax. Under the Indiana law, fees collected under the dog tax are for the use of reimbursing farmers whose sheep are killed by dogs.
