Donnelley & Sons Co. is partnering with five area middle schools to expose 24 students to real-world skills that will transfer to a high school extracurricular activity, a community endeavor and an awareness of employment opportunities with Donnelley. Volunteers from Donnelley are taking time from their afternoon schedules to make the program work. Those volunteers include: Ann Branson, J.R. Brito, Doug Cripe, Joyce Gross, Mike Harrell, Hal Harting, David Hite, Trina Hoy, Darvin Lafferty, Val McCleary, Pat Outlaw, Mark Swinger, Mike Wall and Judy Walter.25 Years AgoKathy O'Lesek, Pierceton, was chosen as first-place winner at the Times-Union Spotlight Recipe Contest. This is her recipe for Turkey Casserole.2 cups chicken or turkey; 2 cups celery; 1 medium onion; 2 cups shredded cheese; 1-1/2 cups salad dressing; 1 tbsp. lemon juice; 1 can water chestnuts; 1 pkg. slivered almonds; 3/4 tsp. salt; 1/4 tsp. pepper.Bake 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Last 5 minutes sprinkle on 1 can onion rings.50 Years AgoMiss Phyllis Ummel, of Claypool, has been selected as the first recipient of the Lucile Kesler Memorial Scholarship for the nurse's training to be awarded by Lamba Chi Omega sorority. The daughter of Mrs. Edith Ummel, Claypool, Phyllis is now attending Indiana University. She will begin nurse's training at the I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis next fall. MIss Ummel was salutatorian of her class at Beaver Dam High School.75 Years AgoOrlando F. Gerard, North Webster, and Melissa L. Little, North Manchester, twins, will celebrate their 77th birthday anniversary March 25. They were born in North Webster in the house that is now occupied as the parsonage for the Church of God. Mr. Gerard was for 14 years postmaster, and served for eight years as township trustee. Mrs. Little has resided in California and Arizona for some time. Her home at present is in North Manchester.
