10 Years AgoKosciusko County Cattlemen's annual meeting was held recently at the Center Lake Pavilion in conjunction with the Pork Producers' meeting. The evening consisted of a summary of the past year's events and accomplishments and recognition of the 1999 4-H County Bred and Born Champions. Other awards presented that evening were: Young Ribeye Award, Katie Darr; Friend of the Cattlemen's award, Ernie Rhoades; Beef Promoter Award, Janelle Sommers; and Cattleman of the Year, Wendell Bryant. The 1999 president of Cattlemen's, Jay Haughee, and Vice President John Camden presented Sommers' award to her.25 Years AgoWarsaw's head coach Al Rhodes was named assistant for the 1985 Indiana boys All-Star basketball team that will meet Kentucky in June. New Castle's Sam Alford has been named head coach.Rhodes' selection marks the first time in the series that a Warsaw coach has been named to either the boys or girls teams. Two of his players, Ron Brandenberg and Marty Lehmann, were named to the All-Star teams in 1981 and 1984, and a third, Jeff Grose, is a leading candidate for Mr. Basketball honors this season.50 Years AgoThe Warsaw Community Schools' first Science Fair was accepted unanimously as a big success after thousands of persons viewed the many fine exhibits on display at the local school armory.More than 300 exhibits were entered by students from kindergarten through the 12th grade (senior). Exhibits were in the following categories: chemistry, conservation, botany, geology, mathematics, physics and zoology. Displays were judged on the basis of creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill, clarity and dramatic value.75 Years AgoThe village of North Webster will become the incorporated town of North Webster under plans formulated last night at a mass meeting of North Webster citizens called by the Webster Chamber of Commerce to consider incorporating the town.The place has for years been under township government. A petition asking state authorities for incorporation will be circulated by Lloyd Miller, W.T. Daly and Earl Gerard, named committee members when 75 leading citizens attended the meeting.
