10 Years AgoThe town of Silver Lake is a few steps closer to finalizing plans for a town park to occupy the old Marathon Station site. Town council president Brenda Wadkins said last month the town plans to put a gazebo in the old parking lot, adding benches and a brick sidewalk to make the area a "sitting park." The town will be selling 4- by 8-inch and 8- by 8-inch bricks, to the public to raise money for construction of the new park. The bricks will be engraved with whatever the buyer chooses and placed in the park.25 Years AgoBack in home at the edge of Rozella Ford Community Golf Course are Warsaw's McCleary's (Doc and Lou) after a couple of weeks in sunny Florida visiting friends and relatives in and around Sebring.Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cameron, of Winona Lake, have returned to their home after two weeks of vacation in Florida. They visited friends and relatives in Lakeland, Punta Gorda and St. Petersburg.50 Years AgoTypical of American Girl Scouts who are observing Citizenship Day today are Gale Hoskins, a Brownie, Marcia Ann Miner, an Intermediate, and Lynn Coble, Senior Scout wearing the new official uniform for her group. Parents of the girls are Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hoskins and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miner, of Warsaw, and Dr. and Mrs. M.M. Coble, of Pierceton. Brownies start by learning what citizenship stands for on a local level. All Scout programs begin with a flag ceremony.75 Years Ago An enjoyable ("kid") party was held recently at the home of Miss Frances Smith by members of the O-We-Kon-Za campfire group. All came dressed in children's costumes, and the prize for the cleverest costume was awarded to Miss Janice Ruse. Miss Charlotte Marie Butler won the prize for guessing the number of beans in a jar, and in a clothes pin contest Miss Margaret Moore won the prize. Refreshments were served to the 11 members present.
