10 Years AgoTwenty-six students from five Indiana schools were recently honored as winners of the 2001 Partners in Energy poster contest. This year's Partners in Energy poster contest winners from Eisenhower Elementary school in Warsaw, which was sponsored by the CAA of REAL Services Inc., South Bend, were: First place - third grade student Audrey Petro and Michelle Yantz, teacher.Honorable mention - third grade student Emily Kleinhans and Julie Martin, teacher.Honorable mention - sixth grade student: Lindsey Stapleton and Maria Babanskyj, teacher.25 Years AgoFormer Times-Union city editor Mrs. Gary Sturm (Kathy Muckle) has joined the news staff of the Anderson Herald as a political writer. Kathy worked her way up from "sob sister" reporter to city editor during a nine-year tenure here before marrying Gary, an engineering graduate of Purdue University and employed with Delco Remy at Anderson.50 Years AgoF.B. Miller, of Winona Lake, former newspaperman, visited his old friend and schoolmate, Norman Vincent Peale, in New York recently. Miller, head of greeting card company at Winona Lake, and Peale went to high school together at Bellefontaine, Ohio, and later were fellow newspapermen at Findlay. Dr. Peale, author and pastor, now is in charge of the oldest church in America, the Marble Collegiate on 5th Avenue in New York City.75 Years AgoCoach George Fisher's Warsaw High School net cagesters, heavy favored tourney quintet, survived first round play of the sectional classic here, eliminating Beaver Dam, pre-tourney dark horse, by a decisive score, 38 to 20. A near-capacity crowd of approximately 2,300 persons jammed the Armory to watch the initial tilt. Warsaw will meet Silver Lake, in the second round play.
