10 Years AgoA 1991 Warsaw Community High School graduate has several photographs in a recently published book. Christy Mock's photographs appear in "Love in a Global Village: A Celebration of Intercultural Families in the Midwest" by Jessie Carroll Grearson and Lauren B. Smith.Mock's Mother, Laurie Mock, reports her daughter's first photography teacher was the Times-Union's own Gary Nieter. Since high school, Mock completed a degree in photography at Purdue University in 1995 and is a graduate student in photography at University of Illinois at Chicago. Although she's been published in newspapers and magazines, this is Mock's first work to appear in a book.25 Years AgoThe local Red Cross observed its 35th anniversary as an organization (the same length of time it has visited the Warsaw American Legion) with a cake and decorations recently at the Legion. The Fort Wayne Community Blood Center linked with 22 nearby counties on Feb. 21, 1951, to become the 39th Red Cross blood service region in the country. On Feb. 28, 1951, Kosciusko County sponsored the new organization's third bloodmobile, with Mike Hodges becoming the first local donor.50 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Curtis Gable, Warsaw, are home from an extended vacation in California. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bicknell in Fremont, near San Francisco, over Christmas and New Year's. Later, Mr. Gable spent some time in Ucipia with his brother and two sisters.75 Years AgoSeven teams will compete in the area Boy Scout First Aid meet, which will be held in the Goshen High School gymnasium March 9. Included in these teams are representatives from Troop 12, Lion's Club of Mentone, and Troop 35, Presbyterian Church of Winona Lake. Those boys who will compete in the meet from Winona Lake are: Fred Strauss, Robert Howe, Robert Haney and John Noble.
