10 Years AgoTriton High School successfully defended their Semi-State crown Saturday by defeating Clinton Prairie, 75-60, then beating Adams Central in the championship game, 59-45. Next saturday, No. 1-ranked Triton will face No. 2 White River Valley at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to defend their Class 1A state championship from last year.25 Years AgoThe Thrifty Fifty Home Extension Club recently met for the regular monthly meeting at the home of Lucille Gaither with Esther Lyon as co-hostess. Eleanor Holt, president, opened the meeting by reading an article from the South Bend Tribune in which it was noted that Indiana has the largest state membership in the country with 41,000 women belonging to homemakers clubs.50 Years AgoTalk about bad luck! First, Coach Phil Pratt's Claypool High School basketball team lost to Columbia City in the semi-finals of the sectional tournament Saturday (Feb. 25, 1961). Then upon leaving the gym, Coach Pratt discovered a flat tire on his car! With blinding snow swirling around him, Coach Pratt changed the tire. He wore his wife's head scarf around his head to keep warm. He was just one of hundreds who experienced trouble in this season's worst snowstorm that day.75 Years AgoCommencement exercises of all Kosciusko County schools will be the latest this spring than in many years because of the four weeks of cold weather, it was stated by officials. Most schools lost more than two weeks' school work because of lack of fuel in school buildings and impassible roads, due to large snow drifts, made it impossible to have school. Time lost has to be made up by the pupils.
