10 Years AgoDespite overwhelming support from the community, Meijer decision-makers have decided to withdraw plans to build a store in Warsaw at this time, according to a letter from attorney Stephen Snyder. Snyder has represented Meijer's concerns since last year when the Michigan based retail company first approached Warsaw about building a store.25 Years AgoThe Grand Prize Winner for appetizers in the sixth annual Times-Union Spotlight Recipe Contest Taste-Off was Cheryl Burtoft, Warsaw for her recipe: Cashew Nut Chicken1/4 cup cornstarch; 1/2 tsp. sugar; 2 slightly beaten egg whites; 1 tsp. brandy; 2 chicken breasts, skinned, boned and cut in 1-1/2 inch strips; 1-1/2 cups finely chopped cashew nuts, peanut or cooking oilIn a small bowl combine cornstarch and sugar. Stir in egg whites and brandy. Dip chicken pieces in mixture then roll in nuts. Fry in deep, hot fat 375 degrees til golden.50 Years AgoMembers of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club entertained their wives and daughters recently at a "Sweetheart Party" dinner meeting held in the Warsaw Civic Center. Each guest received a red rose upon entering the center. Clarence Hartman presented door prizes - heart-shaped boxes of candy - to Mrs. Myron Ringo, Mrs. Glenn Wagner and daughter, Mrs. Erwin Niemann, and Mrs. Dean Brown. Following the program, Miss Ann Voirol received a box of red roses from Harry Circle, program chairman. Kiwanians extended congratulations to Rita Lamoree, a high school student, as winner of a scholarship.75 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Royal Pottenger, Miss Ora Pottenger, Miss Wanda Ayars and Miss Jean Hines recently attended the debate at Manchester College. James Pottenger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Pottenger, took part in the debate.The Wide Awake Sunday school class enjoyed an oyster supper recently at the Hasting school house with Miss Evelyn Warner as hostess. Sixteen members and one guest enjoyed games and contests following the supper.
