10 Years AgoIndiana's highest honor, the Sagamore of the Wabash, was presented recently to Dr. Lee Harman, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools. The "Sagamore" was a term used by the American Indian tribes of the Northeastern United States to describe "a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe to whom the true chief would look for wisdom and advice."Harman, 56, was also named Indiana's superintendent of the year. He has been superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools since 1992.25 Years AgoThe Kosciusko Community YMCA gymnastics team recently completed its season with novice championship competition at Chesterton Feb. 15. Members of the 1985-86 team are: Traci Chamberlain, Krista Guimond, Angie Weed, Tera Rodocker, Juli Bryan, Becky Gerber, Amber Titus, Shera Smith, Debbie Wilson, Tina Zorn, Christy Hartman, Holly Hapner, Kara Hackworth, Wendy Sanders, Shannon Rauen, Amanda Hepler, Jody Thompson, Heather Imhoff, coach Cal Imhoff, Jennifer Parson, Darci Cunningham and coach Heidi Beer.50 Years AgoFive history students at Bourbon High School were commended by Mr. Fred Hall for papers they prepared for the history contest sponsored by the Tippecanoe River chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. They were Leslie Zent, Naomi Cumberland, the contest winner: Rachel Bules, Karen Cain and Betty Bocko. Rachael's subject was the Panama Canal. Other topics were Thomas Jefferson, Richard Nixon, Abraham Lincoln and American jazz. The history instructor was Paul Gilman.75 Years AgoF.H. Fillingham, manager of the South Bend division of the Standard Oil Company, was guest speaker at the recent luncheon of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club. He gave a very interesting discussion concerning the petroleum industry. He gave a historical talk on use of petroleum in ancient and modern times, and related the growth of the industry since 1870. Some 250 different materials are manufactured from the crude oil as a result of the chemists' ingenuity.
