10 Years AgoMore than 175 teens spent Friday night at the YMCA for Teen Night. They played basketball and soccer, they "sumo wrestled" and the girls even had makeovers.Teen Nights are held once a month at the YMCA though the activity is only an all-night event three times a year. "We draw big crowds for these," said Ryan Finney, YMCA teen and family director. The main focus of the nights, he said, is to keep kids off the streets. They have a quality staff from Grace College and local youth ministries to help with the programs and to supervise.25 Years AgoStudents of the Triton Elementary School, grades four through six, will cooperate with hundreds of other schools throughout the nation and Indiana on Feb. 27 when they will "Jump Rope for Heart" to earn pledges for the American Heart Association. On Jan. 24, the elementary students were honored with a program by the "Thump Jumpers", a jump rope team that tours Indiana schools promoting jumping rope as a good cardiovascular exercise.50 Years AgoMr. and Mrs. Gerald Overmyer, of Winona Lake, are spending the weekend with their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Max Raines, and family. The Overmyers are attending the regional basketball tournament in which their grandson, Rick Raines, is a participant.75 Years AgoThousands of bushels of potatoes in Kosciusko County and northern Indiana have been frozen by the recent cold wave and a potato shortage is indicated, potato growers said. One grower, in digging down into his potato supply, recently found 3,000 bushels frozen. Not only in potato heaps but in outside cellars and basements of their homes and barns, farmers report potatoes frozen.
