10 Years AgoGrace College will present the American Lyceum Lecture Series to provide a setting for anew generation of public speakers. "The idea behind this public lecture series is to provide high-quality speakers that would be attractive to our community." said Steve Grill, Grace College dean of community education.Edward L. Hubbard, retired U.S. Air Force colonel and author of "Escape from the Box," will be the first speaker of the series and will speak on the "price of success."25 Years AgoChad Hopkins, a holder of numerous scoring and kicking records for Warsaw Community High School in football, signed a letter of intent today to attend Western Michigan University of the Mid-American Conference. Hopkins burst on the Tiger football scene as a sophomore, rushing for 1,067 yards and 123 points, a single-season school scoring record. He was named to the UPI All-State team as a kicker, and was honorable mention in both the UPI and AP rankings as a running back.50 Years AgoMrs. Lyman Wilson, of Melody Acres, entertained recently at a coffee in compliment to Mrs. Don Hackbert, a newcomer to the community. The Hackberts moved here from Chicago and reside on Argonne Road. He is associated with the firm of R.R. Donnelley and Sons.75 Years AgoSunday afternoon, before a large crowd on Syracuse Lake, a skating race was held and a silver cup was given to the fastest skater. The winner of the race was Burton Niles, who will keep the cup one week. Next Sunday, another race will be held, and the cup will be passed on to the winner of that race.
