10 Years AgoThe Knights of Columbus contributed $1,000 to Lakeland Daycare after sponsoring a special bingo at which they also collected food to be distributed to the local food pantries. The Knights of Columbus hold bingo at their hall in Syracuse each Saturday and food drive once a month.25 Years AgoThe board of trustees of Manchester College announced the appointment of Dr. William P. Robinson as president of Manchester College. Robinson is the 10th person in the college's 97-year history named to this leadership position. He succeeds Dr. A. Blair Helman, who will retire June 30 after a 30-year tenure as Manchester College president.50 Years AgoRev. Howard Crim, of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Silver Lake, reports he and members of the church found a number of old papers under the linoleum in the church entrance recently. A new floor covering was purchased and the old covering removed. Some of the copies included: June 29, 1905, Northern Indianian and Silver Lake Record of March 31, 1905. All were in almost perfect condition. The church at that time was held by the Lutherans.75 Years AgoA meeting was being held at the Mentone High School by George Myers, Harrison Township trustee and members of the advisory board to receive bids on the selling of the old Harrison Center consolidated school built in 1923 at a cost of $96,000. The school tract includes four acres and is located near the Harrison-Wayne township line southwest of Warsaw. Bids are to be received for the building, land and heating plant equipment. The building is constructed of steel and brick and contains six class rooms, an auditorium and gymnasium.
