10 Years AgoDennis Wagoner accepted the North Webster Person of the Year Honors from North Webster Chamber of Commerce representative Mary Gerard recently at the chamber's annual banquet. The event this year was held at Ye Olde Pub in North Webster. Wagoner, a North Webster native and manager of North Webster Ace Hardware, was honored for his longtime community service. Wagoner is an active chamber member and heads up the town's Main street program, and has been involved in downtown beautification projects.25 Years AgoThe National Secondary Education Council announced recently that Warsaw Community High School Senior Douglas Flory has been named an Academic All-American. The NSEC has established the Academic All-American Scholar Award Program in order to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. Flory is the president of the senior class. He was recently named to the 5AAAAA Academic Football Team for Indiana. He is the son of John and Pam Flory of Leesburg.50 Years AgoFour Warsaw youths served as pages in the Indiana State Legislature recently, two in the State Senate and the other two in the House. Those who served in the State Senate were Colin McCance, 11, and David Titus, 12. Colin is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Edward C. McCance, while David is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Titus, all of Warsaw. The two serving in the State House were Clarke McCance, 14, (brother of Colin) and Steve Grossnickle, 14. Steve is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Grossnickle of Warsaw.75 Years AgoMaurice "Red" Bennett, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bennett, of this city, won his first bout of the Golden Gloves tournament held at Fort Wayne last night. The youngster pounded out a decision in three rounds over another Kosciusko County boy, Herb Shoemaker of Pierceton.
