Remember The Children

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Math and figures were not my strong point in school, but here are some that sorta shocked me, along with the sickening TV news of the "terrorists" using a little child to fool the guards so they could get a bomb toward its intended target. The child was blown to bits, along with several adults.

Surely, that's about as low as so-called "humans" can sink!

From conception we humans are extremely helpless - not just for nine months, but for quite a number of years. Most "civilized" people have a strong protective attitude toward little children and the "old and infirm" in society. But who's really "civilized" now?

Here are some figures you might have overlooked: There are about 2 billion children in the world. One billion of them live in poverty, i.e. on less than $1 per day. Two million children under age 15 are HIV-positive and millions more are orphaned by AIDS. Wars have killed 1.5 million children since 1990. About 246 million are exploited in the labor market. About 8 million are trapped by prostitution/sex sin. Thirty thousand die every day of preventable diseases. We're talking about children!

Who's responsible for all this horrible misery in the world? It's adults! Us! Remember the little song, "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world"? It's so true!

But if you want to know what he thinks of "responsible" adults who think we can "cop out" on our duties and "use" even little children (among other unacceptable excuses), then I dare you to read what I recently re-read! It was St. Mark, chapter 9. (All 50 verses of it!) It may humble and shock you, like it did me just this morning!
