    OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Seven Wawasee High School students and their advisor will return to Syracuse after a harrowing weekend in Oklahoma.

The FFA soil judging team was in Oklahoma City for the national competition. The tornadoes that tore through the state recently demolished the hotel the students were staying in and the van they were using. The students safely made it out of their second-floor hotel rooms before the tornado hit.

    Randy Dawson was recently named Baker Boys Cub "Boy Of The Year" at a banquet sponsored by the Warsaw "Breakfast" Optimist Club. The BBC runner-up award went to Rodney Jackson.

May 8 1959

    Lanny Mauzy, of Our Town, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Thames Mauzy, has been accepted for "Junior Year at New York University," a business administration course for college juniors. Lanny is at present a sophomore at DePauw University and is majoring in economics with emphasis on statistics. Those accepted for the New York program attend classes and during various periods of the day participate in "laboratory work" at either Gimbles, Macy's or Sax Fifth Avenue as part of their training. He has not yet decided whether he will accept the appointment to the school.

May 8 1934

    A truck loaded high with crates of live ducks attempted to drive under the Pennsylvania viaduct at West Market Street. The low viaduct bridge struck and mashed the top crates and liberated several score of quackers. Warsaw Police were called and helped round up the fleeing ducks who forgot to duck for the low bridge.
