Editor, Times-Union: I would like to thank Sacred Heart Catholic Church for their courage to host the Religious Freedom Workshop on Tuesday. In full disclosure, I am not Catholic, but I am honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in the midst of this assault on our religious freedom. I am grateful to them for their public stand against this attack from the Obama administration.
Here is the message. Church, it’s now or never! We are in the midst of a blatant attack on our foundation. The attack on our freedom of religion is growing by the hour. While the church has been lulled to sleep by all the lights, pretty talk, and self deception, the enemy has seen this weakness and has pounced.
My question to you is at what point will you have had enough? I have the privilege of talking to so many folks in our community who come to me and say they have had enough of silent church leaders. They tell me that as they speak to the leadership they are told, "We know there is a threat to our freedom, but we don’t get into politics, it’s too controversial, we will lose attendees if we talk about the issues."
My question is this: At what point will you speak out? Apparently, it’s not the millions of babies that are slaughtered each year. It’s not the family structure that is being destroyed, and evidently it’s not even the government coming into your building and telling you that you have to pay for abortion services.
What will it be?
Is the blessed tax status the sacred cow? When the government takes that, will that be the line in the sand? If that’s the case, Let the government have it now! What will it be church? I urge you to draw a line in the sand. Stand up for your Religious Freedom or you will lose it forever.
I’m grateful for the remnant. I’m grateful for those few who are not worried about being politically correct, or their tax status. I am grateful that even with this attack of the enemy to the church there is a remnant who say, “I will not comply!”
Last night even with the low numbers, I saw unity. I saw Catholics grasping the hand of the Evangelicals. I saw two Evangelicals (Tea party Evangelicals at that) saying, “We stand with you.”
It’s now or never church!
With firm reliance on divine providence.
