WINONA LAKE – Registration is now available for the Second Annual Kidney Walk and Run 5K. The event is at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at Winona Lake Park, 1590 Park Ave. On the day of the event, registration is at the park at 8 a.m. To register before the event, email Southall at southwood12j@hotmail.com Proceeds from the event will go to the American Kidney Fund. There will be door prizes. Sandwiches, chips and beverages will be able to be purchased. T-shirts will be available for $10 before the event and $12 the day of the event. According to a press release from American Kidney Fund, as of January 2015, more than 100,000 people are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. William Southall, 32, a 2001 Warsaw Community High School graduate, is the organizer for the event. Southall has been on kidney dialysis for the past six years and he was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. Attendees will be given tickets, and walkers will find their ticket numbers along the walk and turn them in for prizes from sponsors. There will be top prizes for the top five finishers.
