Warsaw Redevelopment Commission approved a professional design services contract Monday for improvements to Silveus Crossing.

The contract is for widening Silveus Crossing, and adding a right-turn lane at the entrance of the future Ivy Tech Community College campus.

Redevelopers approved the $30,420 contract between the city and MSKTD & Associates Inc., Fort Wayne."With Ivy Tech scheduled to open across from Medtronic at the corner of U.S. 30 and Silveus Crossing in 2011, there are road improvements that need to be addressed," said Jeremy Skinner, city planner.

Skinner said the city has negotiated with Ivy Tech on some of the road improvements the city found necessary, and he said the improvements are scheduled be completed by the end of this year.

Professional design services the engineering firm will complete include widening Silveus Crossing to three full lanes from U.S. 30 to CR 300.

The three lanes will be full north- and south-bound lanes, and a center turn lane. In addition, there will be a right-turn lane added at Ivy Tech's entrance before the college opens at the corner of U.S. 30 and Silveus Crossing.

"We want the road to be done and good to go before Ivy Tech comes in so we don't have to tear it up a year from now," Skinner said.

Engineering services will include reviewing current site conditions, documenting a preliminary layout, developing drawings for drainage and erosion control, assisting bidding and observing construction.

The commission also approved making a payment to The Land Plan Group, LLC, Fort Wayne, for Buffalo Street corridor irrigation design services.
