Red V. White Game Feb. 29

Who has more game - Madison Elementary School parents or teachers?

Find out Feb. 29 when 10 Madison teachers and Principal Jeff Neumann take on 20 parents in a "Red vs. White" basketball game. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is expected to be finished by 9 p.m., according to third-grade teacher Gail Rathbun.

Admission is $1 or two cans of food. The money will go toward Madison sports, while the canned food items will go to Combined Community Services.

Besides the basketball game, other activities will be held during the course of the night. When the public enters the gymnasium, they will get a ticket. If a person's number on the ticket is called, they get to sit on a couch courtside to watch the game. Door prizes from local merchants also will be drawn.

Rathbun said there also will be a basketball shooting contest, a free throw contest, a slam dunk contest and a paper airplane contest. Madison's mascot, "Big Red," also will be dancing with the public.

This is the first year for the event. Rathbun said the school hopes this type of event can provide a sense of community between parents and teachers and get them excited about the school.

Playing alongside Neumann and Rathbun during the basketball game will be teachers Kevin Lancaster, Krishna Roler, Kris Hueber, Tori Reneker, Jamie Byron, Gina Courtois, Carmen Elliot, Doug Hoffert and Amanda Bailey. Parents participating volunteered to play basketball or help at the event.
