Red Cross Month

Editor, Times-Union:
Each year the President of the United States declares March as National Red Cross Month in recognition of the organization’s humanitarian work performed in local communities and all across the country.

As a part of the Kosciusko County Red Cross Chapter, I know the Red Cross is a place where ordinary people transform compassion into actions that make a difference. These people bring relief and assistance to those devastated by the loss of their home due to a house fire. They give blood to save the lives of complete strangers. They teach local residents skills that could make a difference between life and death. They connect local families with their son or daughter who are serving in the military and stationed somewhere on the other side of the world. All this and more happens every day.

I also want you to know these ordinary people are your friends, neighbors or co-workers who give of their time to help others in our community. I’m proud to work side-by-side with these special people and I appreciate their spirit of caring.  Thank them for their dedicated service to the community and to the Red Cross.

During the month of March, I ask that you think about how you could make a difference through the Red Cross. Would you give of your time, talents or treasures to help someone else have a better day? Would you join the Kosciusko County Red Cross?  I know together we’ll make a difference!
