CROMWELL – American Red Cross is assisting a Cromwell family with clothing and other needs after a fire destroyed their home Thursday.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded to a report of a blaze at 9576 E. Pixie Parkway, Cromwell, at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

The structure was engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived. Two adults and three children – ages 13, 10 and 1 – were reported to be inside.

All occupants got out of the structure with no injuries, according to a news release issued by Turkey Creek Fire Territory on Friday.

The fire was brought under control by  2:44 p.m. The structure and contents were a total loss.

North Webster and Ligonier fire departments assisted Turkey Creek at the scene.

The fire has been ruled accidental due to combustible material too close to an appliance.

The owner of the structure is Arturo Mendoza, and the occupant was Andrea Lopez. The occupants are now staying with relatives, the release stated.

Damage from heat was sustained to a nearby structure at 11926 N. Raggedy Ann Road. The owner of the structure is listed as Gail Mast.

Damage to both structures and contents is estimated at between $40,000 and $50,000.
