The 2004 Red Ball Committee recently kicked off plans for this year's ball, scheduled for July 24 at Tippecanoe Country Club. Co-chairmen for the event are Rebecca and Mike Kubacki and Cathy and Larry Teghtmeyer. The theme for the ball will be "Summer Cruise."
Cathy Teghtmeyer said, "Attire for the evening will be informal, fun and tropical - 'Tommy Bahama' style floral shirts for the men and bright colored summer outfits for the women that would be appropriate for a summer cruise." Dinner will be served from island huts on the lawn and the dance portion will be inside. A reggae band will provide music for the event.
As in the past, the ball will include silent and live auctions, with a variety of items. The live auction will feature a unique pendant of rare Hawaiian black coral, accented by diamonds in 14K gold that was designed by Bill Allen and donated by Bill and Susan Allen, Allen's Designs, Warsaw,
Proceeds from the ball go to the Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Larry Peppel, executive director of the local chapter, said, "This year's proceeds will go toward supporting disaster preparedness and the response program of the Red Cross. Last year, there were 34 single family fires for which we provided help." Last year's ball netted $35,000 to the Red Cross.
Rebecca Kubacki said, "Invitations will be mailed in June. Anyone wanting to receive an invitation may call the Red Cross, 267-5244, to be added to the list. Those not attending the ball can donate by returning a contribution with the RSVP or may donate directly to the Red Cross. All direct donations should be earmarked to "Summer Cruise."
The five patron levels for the 2004 Red Ball will be: $5,000, Commodores, which includes the patron's name on the "Cruise Ship," a table of eight, a full-page ad in the program booklet, special recognition at the event an listing on the invitation; $3,000, Captains, name on one of the "Island Hut Ports of Call," table of eight, full-page ad, recognition and listing; $2,000, First Mate, table of eight, listings on the invitation and program booklet; $1,000, Ensigns, four tickets to the event and listings on the invitation and program booklet; and $500, Sailors, two tickets and listing on the invitation.
