The 2005 Red Ball Committee recently kicked off plans for this year's ball, scheduled May 14 at Tippecanoe Country Club. Co-chairs for the event are Rebecca and Mike Kubacki and Cathy and Larry Teghtmeyer.
The theme for the ball will be "Beatlemania," centering around the entertainment for the evening, The Return. The group travels widely and is known for their showmanship as well as the Beatles' music they play and sing. Cathy Teghtmeyer said, "You don't have to dance to enjoy this group. They're as much fun to watch as they are to dance to."
Teghtmeyer also said, "Attire for the evening will be the fun styles of the '60s and '70s. If you remember bell bottoms, Nehru jackets, shifts, empire waistlines or 'muffin' sleeves, you're in good shape. Maybe you have a pair of crushed velvet hot pants or some 'love beads' in the attic."
As in the past, the ball will include silent and live auctions, with a variety of items. Following the "flower power" theme, Bill and Susan Allen, Allen's Designs, Warsaw, have designed a unique pendant in the shape of a calla lily for the live auction. The pendant will be made of yellow and white gold, accented with pave diamonds, and in a size and style appropriate with casual as well as dress attire.
Proceeds from the ball go to the Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Larry Peppel, executive director of the local chapter, said, "Our budget this year is $240,000. We couldn't provide all the services we are able to without the proceeds and support we receive from the Red Ball. Last year, we responded to 26 disasters and assisted 95 individuals, many of which were single family fires. We're on track for the same number this year."
Rebecca Kubacki said, "Invitations will be mailed around April 11. Anyone wanting to receive an invitation may call the Red Cross, 574-267-5244, to be added to the list. Those not attending the Ball can donate by returning a contribution with the RSVP or may donate directly to the Red Cross. All direct donations should be earmarked to "Beatlemania."
As in the past, five patron levels will be specially recognized. Each level will be designated by a title of one of the Beatles' songs. The highest level, $5,000, will include an ad on the stage with The Return. For more information on the levels and what is included with each, call the Red Cross. Donations of other amounts also will be accepted. Make all checks payable to American Red Cross Red Ball 2005, 320 N. Buffalo St., Warsaw, IN 46580.
