The 2003 Red Ball Committee Friday kicked off plans for this year's ball, scheduled May 24, in the North Webster Community Center gymnasium. Co-chairs for the event are Cathy and Larry Teghtmeyer and Rebecca and Mike Kubacki. The theme for the ball is "Senior Prom."
Attire for the evening is "prom-like." Cathy Teghtmeyer said, "Anything goes -Êold prom dresses, long gloves and other attire or accessories that might be worn at a prom. Music for the evening will be provided by 'Classic Soul Allstars,' with songs for everyone."
Cathy said, "We're excited about doing the ball at the Community Center." According to Jeff Thornburg, parts of the former North Webster School are under construction. However, the gymnasium has not been remodeled, which will add to the nostalgia of the evening.
Proceeds from the event go to the Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Larry Peppel, executive director of the local chapter, said that 18 percent to 20 percent of the money for the Red Cross comes from the Red Ball. He said, "Disaster is our core mission. We need to add enough equipment (cots, blankets, etc.) to set up two shelters. We're kicking off our 'Together We Prepare' program to help people respond to disaster. We also support the armed forces, maintain our blood donor program and provide education."
Invitations will be mailed April 17. Rebecca Kubacki said, "Anyone wanting to receive an invitation, may call the Red Cross, 267-5244, to be added to the list. Those not attending the ball can donate by returning a contribution with the RSVP or may donate directly to the Red Cross. All direct donations should be earmarked for 'Together We Prepare.' We'll also have several creative items for the silent auction, including a unique piece of jewelry donated by Allen's Designs."
Rebecca added, "It will be a fun-filled evening, complete with planned extras like photos of the couples and a prom queen and king, accompanied by a court of freshman, sophomore, junior and senior representatives."
