Sadly, a common misconception is that recycling doesn't matter or it won't make a difference. Not only is that entirely false, but recycling and taking care of the earth is one of the most significant acts of kindness we can do for each other.
As we celebrate America Recycles Day, I truly hope it will be a source of inspiration and commitment for everyone. Instead of creating more landfill waste, choose to reuse and recycle; instead of pouring chemicals down the drain, choose to keep our water supply clean; and instead of wasting energy, choose to conserve for future generations. Your actions not only make the earth cleaner for yourself, but your family, neighbors and community. By choosing to recycle you save energy, trees and other precious resources.
If you don't already recycle, the KC Recycling Depot is a wonderful resource that can get you started. You can also change your light bulbs to compact fluorescents to save energy and money, purchase reusable canvas bags for grocery shopping, and shop for environmentally friendly products.
If we all make the commitment to recycle and take care of the earth, we will make a positive difference that will resonate beyond ourselves. Ultimately, your actions do matter and do make a difference.
As Edward Everette Hale once said, "I am only one. But I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."
