Readers Night Out Event To Support Warsaw Library

Posted

The Friends of the Library are seeking donations for capital improvements including renovations to the Warsaw Community Public Library for safety, accessibility and to keep up with the repairs that the building will continue to need.
Community members became more engaged in supporting this cause recently thanks to Mallory Bartel’s social media posts that went viral and landed her on ABC57 talking about the importance of supporting the library.
“It’s not just nostalgia that drives my need to assist the library. WCPL is an integral part of this community and it provides a third space for those that need it as well as a draw to downtown. Being a part of Reader’s Night Out allows me to support three things I love: the library, this community, and reading. The library needs repairs and we as a community should support that,” she said.
In order to raise awareness about this need in the community and to provide a fun event for readers to build their home libraries just in time for summer reading, Readers Night Out will take place on Tuesday, June 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. at The Barn 1880 Event Venue.
Used books will be available in a “pay what you can” donation to the Warsaw Library’s Capital Improvement Fund. There will be popups from Good Neighbor Bakery and Clover to benefit as well. Patrons can pay with cash, Venmo or Paypal.
“I was excited to have other readers in the community want to co host this event,” said Dr. Julia Porter. “The library provides so many resources that many may not even know about from copying to computer and internet use. The staff also know who we are, what books we like, and are ready to help. Many of our children have grown up here and to me, it’s worth supporting.”
Kaci Scheve, of Good Neighbor Bakery, has been instrumental in planning and marketing Readers Night Out and notes, “This is important to me because I believe in helping your neighbor. The library does this every day. This time, they need our help.”
