Editor, Times-Union: Have you ever found a book that you love? A book that took you to a place you had never imagined in your wildest dreams? A book that you stayed up reading past your bedtime? I have, and when I find a good book, it is hard to put it down. I believe that everyone should do more book reading. First, you should read in order to learn things from what you are reading. While reading, I have learned new words like habitually, mused, comprehended, inflictions, impudence, tyrant and many more. I have also learned about new places. I learned some about Prince Edward Island from “Anne of Green Gables.” Another thing I learned from reading books is about people groups. I’ve read about rich people, poor people, people of other cultures and many other kinds of people. Another reason to read books is for entertainment. When I read, I feel like I’m somewhere else. For example, while reading “Dragonspell,” “Dragonquest” and “Dragonknight,” I felt like I was travelling with Kale and Bardon. Books also make me feel like I’m someone else. While reading these books, I felt like I was Kale or Bardon. I could feel their emotions, hear their thoughts, and see what they saw. Finally, you should read because reading is a good way to pass time. I often read when I don’t have anything else to do. Another time I read is when I have finished all my work at school. Do you read during family trips? I would, but I get carsick when I do. As you can see, books can teach you things, they can entertain you, and they are a good way to pass time. Even if you don’t have books at home, you can get books from a public library in your town that you can go to, or you can go to the library at your school. Let’s read more books!
