MENTONE – Raymond L. Lewis, 94, Mentone, died at 10:25 a.m. April 26, 2016, at Mason Health Care of Warsaw. He was born May 13, 1921, in Argos, to Ernest H. and Cloie Biddinger Lewis. On Nov. 25, 1945 in Mentone, he married Grace Alice Rans, who preceded him in death Aug.12, 2015. He and his wife owned and operated Lewis Motors of Mentone for 42 years, retiring in 1993, and owned and operated Lewis Auto Sales of Mentone. He was a 1939 graduate of Argos High School. He proudly served his country for 3-1/2 years in the Pacific Islands in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was honorably discharged Nov. 20, 1945. For over 70 years, he was a member of the Mentone Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a longtime deacon. He was a charter member of the Mentone Chamber of Commerce and for over 75 years was a member of the Mentone Lions Club where he was very active. He and his wife were previously honored as grand marshal of the Mentone Egg Festival Parade. He will always be remembered as a gentle, quiet man of dignity, integrity and a community leader. Surviving are a son, Steve (and spouse Lenore) Lewis, Mentone; a daughter, Sharon (and spouse Gary) Creviston, Xenia, Ohio; five grandchildren: Stephanie (and spouse Shawn) Collins, Etna Green; Gennifer (and spouse Troy) Eaton, Walnut Creek, Ohio; Carey (and spouse Melissa) Lewis, Mentone; Miranda (and spouse Marc) Motter, Worthington, Ohio; Rachel Creviston (and spouse Simon) Ibrahimy, Washington, D.C.; eight great-grandchildren: Ryan Castle, Hallie Doberstein, Taylor and Kara Eaton, Tristyn and Kaitlyn Lewis and Emily Grace and Samuel Motter; a stepgrandchild, Lillie Collins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy B. Bach; and two brothers, Richard and Dean Lewis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with Pastors Michael Wilhite George Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by Warsaw American Legion and VFW.
