NAPPANEE - Raymond G. Smith, 81, died at 6:05 a.m. July 6, 2008, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

He was born July 26, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to Leon G. and Evelyn Sims Smith. On Oct. 18, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., he married Phyllis Schreckenberg, who survives.

He moved to Warsaw from Clarendon Hills, Ill., in 1992. He was a University of Illinois graduate, a pharmacist and attended St. John Lutheran Church, Nappanee. He was a World War II Army Air Corp/Air Force veteran.

Also surviving are two sons, Raymond Jr. (and spouse Tudi) Smith, Missoula, Mont., and Tim (and spouse Linda) Smith, Nappanee; a daughter, Eileen (and spouse Chris) Mincey, Lake Alfred, Fla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. David Stephey officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 (EST) Thursday in Glen Oak Cemetery, Chicago.

Calling is from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
