Raymond G. ‘Gene’ Kitson

SYRACUSE – Raymond G. “Gene” Kitson, 87, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1931, in Syracuse, to Raymond H. and Mary Erin Flemming Kitson.

He graduated in 1949 from Syracuse High School, attended Purdue University in West Lafayette and was a United States Air Force veteran.

He was married on June 18, 1955, in Syracuse, to Peggy Sue Elliott, who survives.

He was formerly employed at New Paris Lumber, retired as a mail carrier for the Syracuse post office after 27 years and worked at Ace Hardware in Syracuse after his retirement.

He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident until he moved to Warsaw in December 2017.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse and was an official for high school baseball and basketball for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kitson of Warsaw; twin daughters, Mary Kitson of Kingsland, Ga., and Marie (Barb Boyd) Kitson of St. Marys, Ga.; son, Alan (Penny) Kitson of Warsaw; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard “Dick” Kitson.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in the funeral home, with Alan Kitson and Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
