SYRACUSE - Raymond David "Ray" Owen, 89, of Syracuse, died at 5:30 p.m. March 12, 2011, in Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare, Milford.

He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in White Pigeon, Mich., to Russell and Grace Estelle Thompson Owen. On Dec. 20, 1944, in Indianapolis, he married Evelyn N. Perkins, who survives.

He graduated from Taylor (Wis.) High School in 1940 and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a chief boatswain mate on the USS LST 222. He was owner and operator of Beer & Owen Inc., Indianapolis, for 25 years. He formerly worked at W.A. Marschke & Sons and Hardware Appliance, both in Indianapolis. He moved to Syracuse from Indianapolis in 2006, but was a weekend and summer residence since 1958. He was a member of North United Methodist Church, Indianapolis; 32nd degree Mason at Millersville Chapter 126; Murat Shrine Scottish Rite, Indianapolis; and Landing Ship Tank Association.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Owen, Speedway, and Donna (and spouse David) Petermann, Indianapolis; a son, Raymond Jr. (and spouse Sally) Owen, Bourbonnais, Ill.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia Belmeyer, Lewisville, Texas, and Ruth (and spouse Buster) Beverly, Orangeburg, S.C. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
