AKRON — Raymon Giles, 89, Fort Wayne, formerly of rural Akron, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at The Hearth at Sycamore Village Assisted Living, Fort Wayne.
He was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Charleston, Tenn., to McKinley and Ethel Stanley Giles. On Feb. 18, 1947, in Bluffton, he was married to Marie A. Calacurcio. She survives.
He was an electrician cable splicer, owning his own company, Ramar Electric Inc., in Ontario, Calif.
He served his country from 1945 to 1949 in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion of Pierceton.
He enjoyed doing many remodeling projects, mowing his yard, scuba diving, hunting, fishing and swinging on the porch with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Giles, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Renee (husband Shaun) Knee, Akron; a son, Tod (wife Joyce) Giles, Warsaw; a son-in-law, Norm Perry, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Ashley and Courtney Giles, California; Lacey (husband Logan) Manns, Silver Lake; and Melinda (husband Jeff) Linhares, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Sophia, Liam, Dakota and Karter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lynda J. Perry; two brothers, John and Bill; and three sisters: Francis, Phyllis and Ruby.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Joel Wallenbeck officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery, with graveside military honors being performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home.
