Washington Elementary School in Warsaw will have a new principal this year - Thomas E. Ray.
Ray was approved as principal by the Warsaw school board in a special meeting Monday.
Citing Ray's credentials and recommendations, and saying he is known for his collaborative approach with his staff, Warsaw Superintendent Dr. Lee Harman said, "We're really excited about Tom Ray coming to us as principal at Washington."
Ray, 34, was formerly with Marion Community Schools as principal at Frances Slocum Elementary School in Marion.
A native of Gas City, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ball State University. He is a member of the Indiana and National Associations of Elementary School Principals, Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Indiana State Reading Association.
Ray said, "I have genuine concern for individual student learning and strive to inspire students and staff members to perform to their maximum potential. I also look forward to becoming actively involved in the Warsaw community."
Ray and his wife, Kathy, who also is a teacher, are moving from Gas City.
He is replacing Thomas Eichenberg, who moved to Virginia.
The school board will next meet Aug. 9, when the 1999-2000 budget will be discussed.
