SYRACUSE – Ray Grumme, 63, of Syracuse, passed away Oct. 22, 2012, in his residence.

He was born June 30, 1949, in Indianapolis, to Jerry and Iris Grumme. In 1969, he married Barbara Wolfe, who survives.

He attended Howe Military School and went on to graduate from Syracuse High School, where he met  Barbara, the love of his life.

He and Barb owned and operated Wawasee Village Hardware. During this time, he found his calling working with tools. In his machine shop, he could build, repair or create almost anything. If it needed fixing, you took it to him. He was an accomplished inventor, machinist, fabricator and a “solutions guy” who many people counted on to solve their mechanical problems.  It was a gift he had that everyone appreciated. He loved life’s simple pleasures. He loved his family, his friends, Lake Wawasee, vacationing in Naples, Fla., and, of course, golfing with his buddies.

Also surviving are three wonderful kids: Jan (and spouse Jason) Brooks; Ted (and spouse Lori) Grumme; and Jon Grumme; six wonderful grandchildren: Ryan Main; Delaney Brooks; and Sadie, Greyston, Connor and Sophia Grumme; five brothers: David White; Jay (and spouse Sandy) Grumme; Marc White; Tom (and spouse Susie) Grumme; and Don (Judy) Grumme; his beloved stepmother, Jeanne Grumme, who was a part of his life for more than 40 years; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Grumme; and a sister, Jan Russell.

God must have needed something fixed, so he called him home leaving wonderful memories for all of his family left behind.

A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse.

Calling is from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
