WINONA LAKE - Dr. Tiberius Rata, professor of Old Testament Studies at Grace Theological Seminary, recently published an article in Scripture and Interpretation, the journal of the Torch Trinity Center for Biblical Research in Seoul, South Korea.
The article is "The History of the Text of Jeremiah."The article examines the history transmission and composition of the text of the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, which has been the subject of discussion for Old Testament scholars for years.
"The source of the attraction in particular," Rata said, "has been the divergence between the Hebrew Masoretic Text and the Greek text of the Septuagint."
The article provides an overall review and critique of previous scholarship with respect to the composition and transmission of the text of Jeremiah. In the article, Rata also discusses the Septuagint (LXX) text and the theory that the LXX text was not based on the Masoretic Hebrew text but instead on a Hebrew Vorlage originating from the same parent-text the of the Masoretic Hebrew text. In the article, Rata also presents a theory that proposes a Masoretic superiority over the Septuagint.
