A Syracuse teen originally accused of rape was arrested today on a Class B felony offense of child molesting.
Syracuse Police Department Detective William Van Vactor said investigation in the case began April 10 when the 13-year-old girl reported the matter to police.
Ernie Heiman, 19, of 202 N. Lake St., Syracuse, confessed to having sexual intercourse with the girl late on March 31 or early on April 1, but he said the act was consentual.
The 13-year-old reportedly was intoxicated when the incident occurred at a Syracuse residence.
Heiman is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
