Editor, Times-Union: Let me see if I understand this right. Rand Paul is the only candidate for president who has a tax plan that actually creates budget surpluses. Rand Paul is the only candidate for president who has a plan to cut spending and address the $19 trillion in debt. Rand Paul is the only candidate for president who is reaching out and expanding the Republican Party by touching on voters other Republicans won’t dare touch. Rand Paul is the only member of Congress who is responsible with his office budget and has returned almost $2 million over his time in Washington. Rand Paul is the only candidate for president who knows that you don’t need to be in bases all over the world to defend America. Rand Paul is the only candidate for president who has constantly defended our Constitutional rights from Big Government, and people who believe in limited government shunned him. Rand Paul said that Benghazi was being used as a gun running site for weapons to Syrian Rebels two years before our government even admitted it. Rand Paul was calling out that the government was lying to the American people about their collection of our phone records for no apparent reason. Rand Paul is saying that the biggest threat to our security is our national debt. Who else is saying that? On the national stage, Republicans were supposed to be the party of limiting government, civil liberties, fiscal responsibility and adherence to the Constitution. What has gone wrong with them? In 2008 and 2012, Ron Paul campaigned on limited government, but the Establishment went with John McCain and Mitt Romney. Today, Rand Paul campaigned on limited government, and who among the Big Government Establishment Progressives will come out as the nominee? Rand Paul only suspended his campaign. He’s going to be on the primary ballot in Indiana in May. Rand Paul has stood for the Constitution. The New American gave Rand Paul a 94 percent score on freedom and adherence to the Constitution – the highest of any candidate running in the race. I want a candidate who will defend the entire Constitution, will work to get us out of monumental debt, defend our civil liberties, and will unleash the American Dream by defeating the Washington machine. I will stand with Rand Paul now, and I will vote for Rand Paul in the May Indiana primary – I hope you all do the same. Gary Eppenbaugh Warsaw, via email
