Rail Line Work (photos)

A car crosses the railroad crossing on Fort Wayne Street this morning in Warsaw with new rail sitting in the foreground. The first stage in a massive railroad rail replacement project reached Warsaw Monday afternoon. The project began near Claypool and will continue as far north as Milford. The process involves dropping off new rail line alongside the tracks and temporarily burying parts at crossings. In July, the new rail will be installed, replacing decades-old rail. In the span of about four hours Monday, crews made adjustments to five crossings. Those included Winona Avenue and Pope, Market, Center and Main streets. Photos by Dan Spalding.
