Ragtime Piano Music Program Set At WCPL

Posted
Michigan Ragtime pianist Deborrah Wyndham will perform June 27 at Warsaw Community Public Library.
The program will be from 6 to 7 p.m.
Ragtime music is a syncopated style of music that was born in America in the 1800s. It is based on the traditional European march and syncopated rhythms with musical influences from many cultures.
When Wyndham was 8 years old, she took up playing the piano.
“I give concerts on a regular basis all over the nation in all kinds of venues such as libraries, colleges, schools, festivals, concert halls and theaters,” Wyndham said.
Wyndham was inspired by the enjoyment she got out of playing ragtime.
She started performing for her school in fifth grade and has been playing professionally ever since she was in high school.
During the program at the library, Wyndham will focus on performing ragtime music on the piano. She also will share some styles of music that are influenced by or related to ragtime.
In between most musical selections, she will tell the background of the piece, and composer and style of the music that she performs.
She also will share some of her original contemporary classical and jazz compositions.
People wanting to attend the free program should register by calling WCPL at 574-267-6011 or online at www.warsawlibrary.org
