Raccoon Patrol Goes Camping

Posted

The newest, youngest patrol of Troop 715 had their first cold weather campout Nov. 15 with nighttime temperatures of 14 degrees. The Scouts also elected to camp without tents that night. The group set up camp at Rising Arrow Campground around noon that Saturday, then went to the YMCA to do all the swimming requirements that are necessary on the 'Trail to First Class' rank. They returned to camp around 6 p.m. and had a hot dinner of baked chicken breasts, macaroni cheese and hot chocolate. The following two hours they worked on other requirements needed to achieve their next rank. Before crawling into their sleeping bags for the night, time was spent sitting by a nice campfire. Even though the night got colder than expected and they slept outside without tents, there were few complaints the next morning. These Scouts and their leaders had discussed the Scout Slogan the week before, 'Be Prepared.'
