All those seemingly useless bits of information you've picked up over the years may come in handy March 11 at the fourth annual Community Quiz Bowl.
Set for 7 to 9 p.m. March 11 in the Career Center Gym at Warsaw Community High School, the Quiz Bowl is a fund-raiser for the Warsaw Community Foundation for Public Education Inc.
According to Angie VanderVinne, Quiz Bowl chairman, the event raises more than $4,000 each year. "The money is used to award grants to various schools for various projects," she said, and the foundation awards approximately a dozen grants each year.
WCDFPE also sponsors other academic events, including EdCom Expo each spring, the chess tournament and the reception each June for Warsaw Community High School students with grade point averages of 12.0 or higher.
The competition involves a maximum of 30 teams, most sponsored by businesses or organizations that pay $150 apiece to participate. The teams include up to five members, with a proctor assigned to each table.
A moderator gives all the participants a question, with a specific amount of time for each team to confer and decide on an answer.
This year, VanderVinne said, the quiz will be composed of 25 questions each on academics, including geography, math, literature and science; events and people of the 20th century; and fun, including sports, music, holidays and advertising slogans.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend and cheer on their favorite team.
