Diane Quance said she is enjoying serving the people of District 5 in her role as a city council member.
Quance and Carl Sowers are seeking the district 5 seat in the May 3 primary.
She would like the opportunity to continue to work to keep Warsaw a vital, vibrant community where people want to live, investors want to establish and maintain businesses and a place children want to return to raise their families.
"I am concerned that Warsaw remains an affordable, quality place for people in all stages of life," Quance said.
She said that includes older adults as well as people beginning families.
"We need to have jobs right here in our community. We also need affordable, quality housing. We need places for people to enjoy themselves," Quance said.
She said she is very excited about being part of the park board in her position as council representative as the parks department undertakes a five-year planning process.
"Much of the economic growth that is and will take place is in District 5 where my friends and neighbors live," Quance said.
She said she wants to be sure the city is spending taxpayers' dollars wisely as incentives are provided for business to come to Warsaw or to remain here.
She also wants to be sure natural resources are protected as business plans are approved.
District 5 includes many people who live on Center and Pike lakes.
"The whole area enjoys the beauty of these lakes and we need to be intentional about city growth," Quance said.
She said she hopes the people in District 5 will continue to contact her about their concerns and opinions as they have already been doing.
"I am here to listen and give thoughtful input at council meetings. I will not hesitate to get answers for you and represent your ideas," Quance said.
Quance graduated from Manchester College with a bachelor's degree in psychology and Indiana University with a master's of social work degree.
She has worked at the Division of Family and Children, Bowen Center and currently is a guidance counselor at Warsaw Community High School.
She is an active member of Tri Kappa. She is vice president of Pike Lake Association and an active member of First United Methodist Church.
She has served on the Kosciusko Youth Soccer League board, the founding board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society board and is a graduate of the second class of the Kosciusko Leadership Academy. She also has done consulting work in disaster relief for the City of Delphi when flooding occurred there, and understands the federal guidelines and regulations in disaster response and relief. She has been a homeowner and taxpayer in the area for the last 30 years.
"I believe I have the education, maturity, experience and desire to represent the fifth district as well as contribute to the council as a whole in bringing a new and fresh perspective to our work together," Quance said.
