Quality Stores Closing

Posted

A joint venture of Tractor Supply Co., Great American Group, Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC and DJM Asset Management LLC recently purchased the assets of Quality Farm Stores Inc. As a result, 153 Quality Farm & Fleet and Central Tractor Farm & Country stores will be closed in 10 states.

The Warsaw Farm & Fleet store is among those closing. Other stores in this area that will close are in Columbia City, Goshen and Rochester. The joint venture is liquidating the entire inventory in 10 states: Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Delaware.

Closing sales in these stores are under way and will continue until all merchandise has been sold. The stores are offering storewide discounts off the lowest ticketed prices in all product categories - including agricultural products, animal health and feeds, home improvement, hardware, electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden, truck and trailer, energy and clothing.

"The real opportunity here is that farmers and do-it-yourselfers will find their favorite brands at significant discount," said James Schaye, principal of Boston-based Gordon Brothers Group, on behalf of the joint venture. "Since many of the most popular brand-name products will be featured in the sales, we know the stores will sell out very quickly."

After the liquidation of the existing inventory in the 153 closing stores is completed, Tractor Supply Co., the retail farm and ranch store chain, expects to reopen 85 stores in the Tractor Supply format by mid-2002. On Dec. 31, 2001, Tractor Supply Co. operated 323 stores in 28 states. The company's stores are in rural communities and in the outlying areas of large cities where the rural lifestyle is a significant factor in the local economy.

According to Joe Scarlett, Tractor Supply Co. CEO, "We have been impressed with the commitment of Quality's knowledgeable store managers and sales associates and the historically strong support from their customers. We're looking forward to building a strong partnership with a significant number of Quality employees to help us deliver the finest possible shopping experience for our customers."

Local Quality Farm & Fleet management is not releasing any additional information regarding the Warsaw store. No details on the liquidation process, such as amounts or percentages of discounts and timing, were available.

Elizabeth Wicks, Gordon Brothers, Boston, Mass., also would not provide any information regarding local employees or if the Warsaw store might be one of the 85 stores reopening as Tractor Supply stores.
