Restaurants had to be locally owned to be eligible; chains were allowed only if there were no other locations in the participating counties. The View Tavern in South Bend was the winner of northern Indiana Burger Wars last year, after narrowly edging out the Kosciusko winner, the Hoe Burger from North Webster American Legion Post 253, in the first regional round. The tavern went on beat The Lakehouse Grille, Marshall County, in round two, and the Flippin Cow, Elkhart, in the final round.
