A 54-year-old woman was the victim of a purse snatching Friday evening in a grocery store parking lot.
Carolyn Sue Hoffman of Warsaw told police that she wrestled with the suspect on the southeast side of the Marsh Supermarket parking lot, but was unable to hold onto her purse.
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Hoffman said that she noticed a small gray or silver car with two occupants driving slowly through the parking lot as she pushed her cart from the store to her car. After loading the groceries into her vehicle, Hoffman said that she pushed her cart to the cart return and had her purse on her shoulder.
As she returned to her car, Hoffman said she noticed the passenger from the gray car walking towards her. He then reportedly lunged at her and grabbed her purse. A struggle ensued and Hoffman said that she screamed and yelled for help before the suspect pulled the purse from her and ran to the gray vehicle. He got in and the driver sped away.
The car, possibly a Pacer, is described as an early 1980s model in poor condition. Both the driver and the passenger are believed to be in their late teens. The driver had no hair and the passenger/suspect was wearing dark clothing and a dark stocking cap or baseball cap pulled down to his eyes. The suspect is between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall and of slim build.
