Purpose

Editor, Times-Union:

God made you and me. He had a purpose in giving life to us. That purpose is that we would have fellowship with Him. Without this happening in our lives by choice, our lives are lost, confused, bewildered. We then just don't seem to fit.God has a plan for our lives with certain possibilities and skills to accomplish that plan. Now, as a nonagenarian, I, reviewing my life, can understand how God has been involved in every circumstance, every turn of destiny, for my good and for loving fellowship with Him. From early childhood I felt tender toward God. The Christmas story of Jesus coming as a baby to be Savior, and then Lord later, spoke truth to my then child mind. I loved Him then. Without much parental guidance, I was led spiritually by two devoted grandmothers, infrequently but effectively.

If we do have fellowship with God, we become lost. Since we fail to find the peace God has intended for us we have a sense of frustration. How many people admit and confess that they are unhappy? As St. Augustine said, "Man's soul is restless, until it rests in God." Our present economic condition is disturbing. There is not any pleasure and tranquility to be found in the flux of events. Even a sufficient personal income has not brought about the peace and happiness some thought and expected. Again, the reason is that man is created in the image of God, and cannot find rest, happiness, joy and peace until we come to God who created us to worship and fellowship with Him.

His plan awaits yet our yielding to it. "Ye shall seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." - Deuteronomy 4:29. "Ask and you shall receive; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you." - Matthew 7:7.

Many of us ask God to change our circumstances to suit our desires, instead of seeking and finding His will, conforming to His plan for us into the future with and for God. Let us look through the present circumstances which may be distressing. Rather look for the will of God to be revealed in the midst of circumstances. He knows the way. "He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life." - John 14:6.

My own life story at 90 years has found it so.
