Purdue Varsity Glee Club Is 1st Concert Of LCCA Season

WINONA LAKE – Purdue Varsity Glee Club kicks off the Lakeland Community Concert Association 2013-14 season Sept. 21. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium, Winona Lake. According to information provided, “With integrity, passion, unparalleled showmanship and attention to every detail, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club have proudly served as ambassadors of the university with honor and dignity for more than 115 years. “Founded in 1893, this select ensemble has entertained on behalf of Purdue University for campus, community, state, national and international events, averaging between 50-60 appearances each year. Embodying the spirit of service above self, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club represent different backgrounds and hometowns across the country, consistently maintaining a high level of academic excellence with majors ranging from engineering to education to management to biological sciences. “This dynamic musical troupe employs a versatile repertoire including gospel, vocal jazz, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral selections, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, familiar opera choruses, country and novelty tunes, and utilizes small groups and outstanding soloists to further enhance each show.” The Purdue Varsity Glee Club is under the direction of William Griffel. The other upcoming shows for this season include: Goldwing Express performs Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium. “Dedicated to their Native American heritage, the Goldwing Express rides in with an incredible mix of hard-driving acoustics and heart-felt melodies. Straight from Branson, this father and his three sons combination has delighted audiences all over the United States,” according to information provided. On Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Steve Zegree performs at Rodeheaver Auditorium. “On the piano, Dr. Zegree is in demand as a pianist, clinician, adjudicator and conductor around the world,” according to information provided. “A renown educator, his students are among today’s leaders in jazz and pop performance, Broadway and singing. He directed the I.U. Singing Hoosiers last year for LCCA and everyone was impressed with his professionalism and keyboard skills.” The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. The Christmas Holiday Pops Concert is very popular. The 2013-14 season will end April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver with Trio Voronezh. Trio Voronezh is a folk music band. This band, renowned for its conventional usage of Russian musical instruments and folk melodies, is composed of three members, Vladimir Volokhin on the domra, Sergei Teleshev on the bayan and Valerie Petrukhin on the double-bass balalaika. Individual concert tickets are available at the door for $20 each. Tickets for all five concerts that are part of the LCCA season are $45. Students are free when their parents purchase tickets.
