Purdue Dedicates Web Site To Biofuel Information

Posted

Kosciusko County Purdue University extension educator for agriculture Kelly Easterday advises that the university has compiled a number of articles about ethanol, its possible impact on the economy, livestock producers and how the product works.

Through its biofuels research, Purdue University has remained at the forefront of the push for alternatives to fossil fuels. To help farmers and the general public better understand the science and issues behind biofuels, Purdue has created a bio-energy Web site that highlights research techniques and information related to renewable fuels, ethanol and biodiesel.

"We developed this Web site for two audiences - crop producers interested in the use of their grain for feed and fuel, and the general public interested in how we're using resources for ethanol production," said Tom Jordan, Purdue Extension assistant director. "Many people weren't thinking about agriculture before ethanol production became popular this year. Now many are interested. At the same time, there were a lot of grain producers not thinking about ethanol before this year."

Posted on the site, www.ces.purdue.edu/bioenergy, are publications from the Purdue Extension BioEnergy Series. Recent postings include:

• "How Ethanol is made from Corn"

• "The Effect of Ethanol on Grain Transportation and Storage"

• "The Value of Distiller's Grain as a Livestock Feed"

• "Use of Dry Distiller's Grains with Soluables by Poultry."

• "Value of Distillers' Grain Ethanol Co-Products to Dairy."

• "Feed Ingredient of Co-Products of Ethanol Fermentation from Corn."

• "Value of Distillers' Grains to Lactating Dairy Cows."

• "Cellulosic Ethanol Biofuel Beyond Corn."

• "Meeting the Ethanol Demand: Consequences and Compromises Associated with More Corn on Corn in Indiana."

• "What is Biodiesel?"

• "Economics of Ethanol"

• "Ethanol and Energy Policy"

In addition to the publications, the site also links to related Purdue Web pages, such a the Richard G. Lugar/Purdue University Energy Summit, "Feeding Biofuel Co-products to Livestock," Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering, Energy Center at Discovery Park and Agricultures magazine articles.

The site will continue to be updated as related articles are published.
